Chapter 1 of 8

Forged

A giant SUN vape, printed in yellow, with the top that comes off and five real SUN devices inside. It went around a show floor on 2026-09-18 and got used.

A giant SUN jar, printed in white with orange lettering on the cap that turns with the cap. Unscrew, lift the lid, lift the seal, put it back together.

Scale

One rule for both: the widest part sits just under a 256 mm print bed. That put the jar at 7× and the vape at 4.5×. The numbers are caliper readings of the real parts against the print files.

Apart

Unscrew, lift the lid, lift the seal, then back together. The lettering is in the cap, so it turns with it. The lid travels 44.8 mm on its thread; the printed geometry clears in about one turn. The seal's plug points down into the mouth and its disc sits on the rim.

The top comes off its skirt, then five devices rise from their seats. The seats are tapered so a real SUN AIO drops in and stays put; the window in the front wall shows them at the true ratio.

Scroll to move the object, or use the slider under the stage.

Turns to close: about one full turn, as the printed geometry does (a 44.8 mm lead over a 44.8 mm band).

    Inspect

The jar apart, every part named: the lid with its letters, the seal with its plug down, the jar with the two-start thread on its 44.8 mm band and the mouth the plug drops into.

The vape apart, every part named: the cap with the collector and riser inside it, five devices, the body with its seats, feeds and window.

Press a part to pick it out. Drag or use the arrow keys to turn the object.

      Airflow Illustration

Vape only. Five feeds run from the bottom face straight up to each seat. In the cap, five bores meet one shared collector, and one riser carries the draw to the mouth. The standard at the bench was that all five devices draw equally. The route follows the real bores. It is an illustration, not a fluid simulation, and not ten chambers.

        Loading the section

The path on a centre-plane section of body v3.2 and cap v3, with measured sizes.

        Chapter 8 of 8

        R&D

What went wrong on the way, and what changed because of it.

        1. The first lid had a left-hand thread. The lid is modelled upside down for printing. A part that is flipped into use is rotated, not mirrored, and the preview had mirrored it too. A spool and a day of printing. Now a thread-hand check runs on every threaded part before export.
        2. The second lid stopped 30 mm short. Its grooves sat at the open end instead of the seated position, so the crest ran out of groove. Now a plane-slice seat check compares groove to crest every millimetre.
        3. The seal's logo vanished. A 1 mm pocket under a 2 mm dish, printed face down, bridged shut. The logo now prints in place as the second colour on a flat top.
        4. The vape's first cap fed one device. The second fed five through a spine channel, and the middle one still drew hardest. The third runs five straight feeds from the base, one per seat, with bigger bores and a bigger collector.
